10 Reasons Why Pam Beesly Is The Best Character In The Office
It’s been more than 5 years since the last episode of NBC’s most popular mockumentary The Office aired. Yet its craze among the fans has never died in all these years and the credit goes to all its characters, most of all, a certain receptionist of the Scranton Branch of Dunder Mifflin paper company called Pamella Beesly. There is a reason why she has been a fan favorite all these years. Actually, there are ten. And here they are:
1.) She cared the most
One thing that all ‘the Office’ fans can agree upon is the fact that Pam was the kindest among the lot. She cared and looked after everybody even when she didn’t outright proclaim it. Here are just a few times she outdid herself when it came to helping others and being kind:
- She helped Michael organize the bird’s funeral when she knew he was hurting and feeling vulnerable. The eulogy she gave at the bird’s funeral was indirectly comforting to Michael and she knew it. She showed him that she and many others cared about him and that he was not alone. She even decorated the casket they put the bird in. If you don’t think that was the most beautiful thing then what are you?
- Helped and comforted Karen after she was thrown out of the party planning committee by Angela and joined forces with her to organize their own party.
- Got Erin her own computer without her asking for it.
- Tried to help Kelly find someone better than Ryan.
- Remember when she posed as the new website as a prank on Dwight and ended up telling that he had won their battle of being the better salesman because she knew he was sad? Yes, that gave us the waterworks too.
- Who was it that persuaded Michael to go to Nashua and pursue Holly? We know that if it weren’t for Pam, Michael would have never had the happy ending he so fiercely deserved.
Also, we gave her browny points for taking care of Andy and his scrotum on the eve of her wedding, although we know she didn’t really have a choice there.
And we know we could all but take all day and this list will not ever be completed. That’s how dedicatedly kind she was.
2.) She was an Original Badass
As timid and soft as she appeared to us in the first scene, it was established 15 minutes into the show that Pam was a total badass. She didn’t put up with Michael’s false claims of having never seen the agenda and didn’t take the blame for his stupidity. The moment she said “You put it in the garbage can that was a special filing cabinet,” was the moment we started falling for her.
3.) She was smart, clever and manipulative
-You’d think you need an actual appointment letter for becoming an Office Administrator. Not for our dear Mrs. Halpert who just shimmied her way into it. And of course,
“They’re the same picture”
Satisfied smile
It’s true that Pam cared about others but she also looked out for herself and held her life together. Indeed a large part of that comprised of manipulating people, especially Michael, but at the end of the day, what she did was always in everyone’s best interests.
4.) She loved to have fun
Pam used to be the 50 percent partner in crime for all of Jim’s pranks on Dwight. In the earlier seasons, if Jim was the mastermind, she was the executioner. And what do you know? When Jim moved to Stamford she took completely over the Prank Dwight task force… One should never forget that Dwight being approached by the CIA was her idea.
5.) She was fierce and brave
One of the best, possibly THE BEST Pam moment was when she walked on the burning coals. Michael had put up this task for the salesmen so that he could choose a regional manager from among them. But it was only our favorite receptionist who actually aced it, and that too completely of her own accord. And her honest to God monologue was the most straightforward anyone could ever be on the show.
“Michael you couldn’t even do that. Maybe I should be your boss.”
6.) She was hilarious
If one thing was guaranteed in every episode of the Office, it was a plethora of laughs. And one of the central agents of our cackles was Pam. The situations that Pam found herself in were challenging, but her deadpan reactions and witty comments were what made them incredibly funny. Our personal favorite was when she was the only one in her new Office who wore a costume on Halloween. She dressed as Charlie Chaplain, used grease paint for her mustache and then couldn’t even take her cap off…because then she’d be Hitler.
What a lovely poor thing! Even Al-Qaeda wouldn’t her…..if they can get to know her that is. (You see what we did there?)
7.) She was highly talented and passionate
We all remember how Pam was passionate about her painting, we remember how good she was at it, but we also remember how little she was appreciated for it. It broke our hearts to see that no one but Michael showed up for her art show. And when Michael offered to buy her painting and she hugged him followed by him hanging it on the Office entrance wall was the first time we cried watching the show.
Pam followed her dreams and went on to design the Dunder Mifflin Logo and eventually the beautiful mural of everyone in the warehouse.
8.) She was Loyal to everyone she cared about
Pam was the only person in the Office who followed Michael out of Dunder Mifflin and into Michael Scott Paper Company. It was she who brought Michael out of his emo phase and set him to work. She worked relentlessly day and night in a tiny workplace to make the company happen. She even put up with the likes of Ryan all through this. So the victory dance she did when Dunder Mifflin was forced to buy their company and hire her as a salesperson was nothing short of well deserved.
9.) She was the perfect wife and mother
No matter what some people may say about Pam, we firmly believe that she was an amazing wife. She let Jim follow his dreams and in the end even moved to Austin with him. As much as we adore Jim we couldn’t help but notice that it was a little unfair for him to buy his parent’s house and start working another job without even consulting Pam once but Pam didn’t bat an eyelid. She did not deserve the subtle backlash she got in the press conference for allowing Jim to stay when he offered. People just didn’t realize how hard it was for her to take care of two toddlers all alone while juggling between her job and her frequent trips to visit Jim.
And yet, after all this, she still managed to find it in herself to leave everything she had worked for in Scranton and start a new life just so Jim could live the life he deserved.
10.) She is played by Jenna Fischer
We promise to never write a word again if you can find us a woman as talented, goofy, intelligent, witty, and beautiful as Jenna Fischer. I mean,
She is beauty,
She is grace,
She punched Steve Carell in the face.
(We know it was a slap but still!)
